Burns named in All-Star team

Burns has been selected for the prestigious All-Star team, marking a significant achievement in his career.
Jarly Og collects All-Star award
SILVERBRIDGE’S Jarly Óg Burns received a well-deserved All-Star award at Friday night’s PwC GAA/GPA All-Stars ceremony at the RDS in Dublin.
Burns’ displays this season were crucial to Armagh ending their Ulster GAA title drought. Armagh GAA said it was: ‘A fitting reward for his outstanding performances in the orange and white in 2026.’
While Silverbridge Harps were also proud of their man and they summed up some of his qualities by saying: ‘Jarly Óg is a quiet gentleman who goes about his business without fuss, letting his football do the talking’
Burns brings Armagh’s tally to eight All-Stars awards across the past three seasons, as in 2024, the Barry McCambridge, Aidan Forker, Ben Crealey, Rian O’Neill, Oisín Conaty and Conor Turbitt added All-Stars to their All-Ireland winning medal collection while last year Oisin Conaty picked up his second All-Star. This year, Burns was the only Armagh player selected from the county’s three nominees, which included Tiernan Kelly and Oisin Conaty.
It’s the first time Burns has been named on the Team of the Year despite being nominated previously, during his debut season back in 2019 as well as in 2022 and last year. He was one of six midfielders nominated in 2019 and in defence in 2022, 2025 and 2026. Burns has been selected at wing half back having lined out there for the majority of the season, although he did feature at midfield at times as well, especially against Down and Dublin.
The 2024 All-Ireland winner played all but one of Armagh’s 16 games during the entire year. The one game he missed was back in January during the McKenna Cup, missing the round two clash against Down.
Burns starred throughout the Ulster Championship and was a regular on the scoresheet. Only Conor Turbitt, Oisin O’Neill and Oisin Conaty scored more than Burns, who finished the provincial campaign with 0-11. He also performed man-marking roles, most notably getting the better of Odhran Murdock against Down in the semi-final. Burns also kicked 0-3, including a two-pointer, in the Ulster final victory over Monaghan.
He also scored in two of Armagh’s three All-Ireland series games, registering points against Derry and Louth but not in the defeat by Kerry. Overall, Burns rattled off 0-24 in his All-Star winning season, including several from his fist and a few two-pointers.
It is a huge honour for the area, the county, the player, his family, and club Silverbridge, who are rightly over the moon for their player.
“Everyone at Silverbridge Harps is absolutely delighted to congratulate our own Jarly Óg Burns on being named a 2026 PwC GAA/GPA Football All-Star!
“Jarly Óg is a quiet gentleman who goes about his business without fuss, letting his football do the talking. His talent, dedication and hard work have earned him this wonderful recognition, and we couldn’t be prouder to see him receive an award that is so richly deserved.
“For those who know him best, this achievement will mean so much. Behind every player is a family, friends, teammates and a community who have watched the journey, shared the sacrifices and quietly hoped for moments like this. We know just how special today will be for them all.
As Down featured in the Tailteann Cup, they were not eligible to be selected, but eight counties are represented.
