Newry man had quantity of cannabis in pocket

The court heard how the Cannabis was for personal use
BEING found with a quantity of cannabis in his pocket has seen a Newry man fined during a sitting of the local magistrates.
Facing a single charge of being in possession of a Class B controlled drug, namely cannabis, was Brian Gerard O'Connor (46) of Edward Street Newry.
The court heard how on March 12 of this year police had reason to search O'Connor wherein they would find 1.77grams of cannabis sequestered in his trouser pocket.
Addressing the court defence counsel described O'Connor as a vulnerable individual who had the cannabis for his own use."
He is a 46 year old man who lives alone in sheltered accommodation. The amount was minimal and was for his own use. He lives on benefits and is alone and vulnerable"
Disposing of the case District Judge Natasha Fitzsimons would impose upon O'Connor a fine of £150 as well as issuing a destruction order with respect of the drugs.
