Produced 29 milligrams of cannabis from underwear

Police could detect a strong smell of the Class B drug emanating from the vehicle
PRODUCING 29 milligrams of cannabis from his underwear has earned a Banbridge man fines during a sitting of Newry Magistrates court. Standing in the dock to answer for counts of possessing the class B controlled drug as well as a charge of using his mobile phone whilst driving was William George Karl Cull (30) of Mountview Park Banbridge.
The court heard how at 11am on July 28 police had reason to stop a White Audi being driven by the defendant Cull within the vicinity of the Camlough Road. When approaching the Audi police could detect a strong smell of cannabis coming from the vehicle. Upon being challenged by the officers Cull would produce a bag from his underwear containing 29 milligrams of the class B drug.
The court would also hear how after being reprimanded by officers for this offence they would also observe him driving his vehicle towards them with his mobile phone held up to his mouth clearly speaking into it. He would then be cautioned by the officers for using his mobile phone whilst driving.
Addressing the court a defence solicitor would describe Cull's use of the mobile phone whilst driving as being "foolish in the extreme" given the fact that police were already in the vicinity having detected him as being in possession of cannabis.
Disposing of the case Deputy District Judge Archer would impose upon Cull fines totalling £450.00 affording him with 26 weeks to pay whilst also issuing a destruction order with respect of the cannabis.
