Newry man fined and disqualified.

Defendant drove through red lights before failing to stop for police court hears
THERE has been an 18 month period of disqualification from driving handed down in the case of Newry man whom before the local magistrates faced several road traffic offences. Appearing before the court for a sentencing hearing was Robert Patrick Thompson (26) of Magennis Villa's Newry.
Thompson faced charges of breach of a road traffic sign using a motor vehicle without insurance, being an unaccompanied L Driver, failing to stop for police and dangerous driving all dating back to February 2 of this year.
It was on this date the court would hear how police would observe a black BMW within the vicinity of Doran's Hill in Newry that was flagged as wanted for a number of motoring offences.
Police would follow this vehicle as it entered William Street where it stopped at a a set of traffic lights. As the traffic lights turned from amber to red the Black BMW would abruptly accelerate through the red traffic lights before the driver, Thompson, made a 180 degree turn back down the road.
It was whilst doing this he drove past the police vehicle with officers being afforded a clear view of who the driver of the vehicle was.
Police then activated blue lights to indicate for the vehicle to stop but the Black BMW failed to do so making of at speed down the Albert Basin whilst passing another car.
Police would then locate Thompson at his home address where he would deny the charges levelled against him claiming that at the time he had been at work.
It would also transpire that at the time Thompson was the holder of a provisional licence only.
Describing Thompson's standard of motoring on February 22 as being "a horrendous piece of driving given the facts"
Deputy District Judge Archer would impose upon the Newry man fines in excess of £1000 as well as disqualifying him from driving for a total period of 18 months.
