Warrenpoint man showed photo of bank statement to police

Stewart showed officers a photo of a bank statement which showed a payment to AXA insurance.
SHOWING a photo of a bank statement to police in what ultimately proved to be an unsuccessful attempt to prove that he was insured to drive his car has resulted in a Warrenpoint man receiving fines and penalty points during a sitting of Newry Magistrates. Appearing in the dock of the court to answer for a single count of using a motor vehicle without insurance was Jay Stewart (20) of Lassara Heights ,Warrenpoint.
The court heard how on July 21 police received a report of a vehicle in Warrenpoint, namely a Volkswagen Golf, with checks showing it had no insurance. Upon locating the vehicle police stopped the driver Stewart. Upon being asked by police if he had a policy of insurance Stewart showed officers a photo of a bank statement which showed a payment to AXA insurance. Stewart was then ordered to produce his policy at a later date but checks showed that this policy had not been in place at the time the Warrenpoint man had been stopped by police on July 21. Addressing the court defence counsel in the case explained how there had been a policy of insurance on Stewart's Golf but that it had been subsequently cancelled following failure of a direct debit payment from his bank account owing to an issue with his wages whilst also making note of the fact that Stewart was currently at university studying business. Opting to dispose of the case by means of a £200 fine whilst endorsing a £15 offender levy District Judge Rice gave Stewart a sober warning regarding his motoring habits."
