FINES have been handed down in the case of a Newry woman who before the city's magistrates pleaded guilty to using a motor vehicle without insurance.

Facing the charge which dated back to July 26 of this year was Rose Abbie Gribben (26) of Spring Martin Newry.

The court heard how at 7pm on the evening of this date police attention would be drawn to a Nissan Qashqai parked within the vicinity of Killowen Point Rostrevor County Down with four occupants inside.

The defendant Gribben was in the drivers seat of the vehicle at the time with checks showing their was no valid of policy of insurance on the Nissan. When challenged on this Gribben would claim that the car was insured but it would later transpire that her policy had been cancelled owing to a direct debit payment having been missed.

Addressing the court defence counsel in the case described Gribben as being of a reputable character who is currently studying quantity surveying and works part time as an Amazon delivery driver.

Disposing of the case Deputy District Judge Rice would opt to impose upon Gribben a fine of £250.00 affording her with five months to pay whilst impose six penalty points on her licence.
